Workers' Comp overhaul for VIC - 6/5/2002

The Victorian WorkCover Authority (VWA) recently unveiled details of the most significant reform of workers' compensation in the scheme's history.

VWA chief executive, Bill Mountford, says the new claims management system to be phased in from July 1 will set a new benchmark for accident compensation schemes in Australia.

Mountford says the first step in the reform is the appointment of a new panel of WorkCover agents to manage the employer premium and injured worker compensation elements of the scheme.

The seven companies will replace an existing panel of 10 agents.

Mountford says that all members of the new agents panel will be required to meet new performance standards as part of their contract and to stringently audit and monitor that performance.
